Covenant Blu/Grand Center is St. Louis’ self-described Theatre and Arts District. Home to The Fabulous Fox, the St. Louis Symphony, The Pulitzer Foundation, and Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (among others), there is always a lot going on in this neighborhood. We last flooded the area for Photo Flood 29 (where we include a comprehensive history), so it is high-time we return to see what is new.

Though the neighborhood has experienced lots of growth, one of the sadder developments since our last visit was the closure of the International Photography Hall of Fame‘s physical museum. Of course, this is not to say that the organization is no more. They maintain a busy schedule of online programming and have committed to continuing the tradition of the Hall of Fame, with in-person induction ceremonies (often an exciting opportunity to meet the world-renowned inductees).

One of the more exciting additions to the Grand Center has been the move of the St. Louis Fringe Festival to the neighborhood. This annual event brings alternative acts from around the country to a cluster of theaters in Grand Center for an exciting week of back-to-back performances. Another addition that has gained national attention is the annual Music at the Intersection Festival. This multi-day event brings artists of international acclaim to the region, largely replacing the vacuum created when Loufest shut down.
Both the Fringe Festival and Music at the Intersection (and many other smaller events) are made possible by the Kranzberg Arts Foundation, which has worked tirelessly to provide both venues and programming for arts in St. Louis that are accessible to all.

If, like us, it has been a while since you’ve visited Covenant Blu/Grand Center, now is the time–exciting things are happening all around! A great place to start to learn about events is Grand Center’s website here.
